Following on from the recent successful Fathers Day Soccer Blood Match, your Club is pleased to announce 2 promotions being run in conjunction with the forthcoming Junior & Senior Prizegivings, to help increase the number of Blood Donors. Before we get into the promotion details . . . . did you realise that:
The Manawatu Blood Centre needs at least 196 blood donations EVERY week.
1 donation is 1 person and to get these donations through the centre and at mobiles, the NZ Blood Service will see around 250 people to make the requirement of 196 donations. The difference in numbers is due to health concerns, say if someone has a cold or flu at present or is on antibiotics. There is a stand down period that exists for people recovering from the flu before their blood can be accepted. This is for the benefit of the donor as well as the health of the person who would be receiving the blood. During this time of the year, it is especially helpful if you are healthy to get along to donate at the Blood Centre or mobile collections in the area.
Some criteria to donate are:
Age: First time donors - between 16 and 60 years of age
Existing regular donors - up to 71 years of age
Weight: 50 kgs and over
Health: Good health at the time of donating
Travel: To not have lived in the UK, France or Ireland between 1980 and 1996 for 6 months or more
Any questions regarding the donating process - just call and talk to the nursing pesonnel on 0800 448 354, who are there to help and make this easy for you to come forward and help others in need. |

As you may have read in the Manawatu Standard earlier this week, Red Sox Manawatu Club Member Gary Leader who plays soccer with the PlumbTech team (who won Manawatu Div 2), had a recent injury whilst playing soccer which lead to him having 1st hand experience of the benefits of the Blood Donor service.
Garys life was saved with the help of 10 donors and he made enough of a recovery to sneak into playing in the recent Red Sox Charity Soccer Fathers Day Blood Match !
