As you may already be aware it is with great sadness that we advise that Owen Brunton was tragically killed in a motor cycle accident at Manfield MotorCourse in Feilding last Saturday. Owen was a much valued and respected member of Red Sox Manawatu having joined the Wrinklies not long after their inception last century.
Owen was an unsung hero of the Club as he regularly generously sponsored or supported numerous initiatives within the Club, the most recent being the design and supply of the brackets that are being used to display the fleet of TV screens in the Club that we use to promote our sponsors and Club activities.
Owen was a legend on the soccer field for his antics and the memory of the day when he finally scored his first goal and the resultant celebrations is one of the most memorable moments in Wrinklies history and indeed a defining example of all that is good about sports team camaraderie.
Owens wife Denny has also been a much valued member of the Club having spent a number of years as the immediate past Club Treasurer & Policeman !
Owen and Denny have many friends throughout the Club and the loss of Owen and his smile will be widely felt. Owens passion in recent years had included motor bikes and he died doing that which he loved.
We extend to Denny and their children, Yvette & Michael, our sincere condolences.
Owens funeral will be held 11:00am Thursday 28 July at the Beauchamp Funeral Home located in John F Kennedy Drive, opposite the large Ezibuy warehouse. The after-match will be held at the Red Sox Manawatu Sports Club Clubrooms. All Club members are invited and encouraged to attend the service and the reception.
The Wrinklies team will be holding a ceremony at 12:45pm on Saturday 30 July immediately prior to the kick-off of their scheduled league game at Colquhoun Park. All Club members are invited and encouraged to attend.
