Welcome to Red Sox  ~  We Have a Dream  ~  Don't You Forget It !

Greetings Club Members - Welcome to Season 2014

Your 8 football teams started their 'winter' season last Saturday on grounds that were very hard, with our young new look and re-building 1st team displaying sound promise in an unlucky 0-1 defeat at Skoglund tarmac against Wanganui Athletic. Their ability and resolve will be further tested over the next 2 weeks with tough away games in New Plymouth and Havelock North - good luck fellas !

Global warming  . . if the grounds we are experiencing in recent seasons are any indicator then this phenomenen is very real and is having an impact. Most players now can play a full season with blades or multis and when was the last season we had several games cancelled/postponed because of ground conditions. Maybe its time to face reality and change the football season to start in May and finish later . . . . . . and while we are at it, maybe we should follow the lead of the ever trend setting Saints team and introduce new compulsory kit for teams - shades, as per below pic !

Your 5 Netball teams start their season this Saturday with 2 full grading games plus further grading rounds (two games each Saturday) on 26 April and 3 May, with the full competition starting 17 May.

Hopefully as you return to your Clubrooms this season you will notice that the building exterior is in the process of being repainted. This project has been lead by Chris Chamberlain (CC) with asssitance from Alan Geekie & Dave Fulton.
Thanks fellas for doing this - you deserve a beer or more, which shall be forthcoming !

Sponsors:
We gratefully acknowledge the tremendous support of your Club sponsors, many of whom have been with us for some years now. This season the weekly Player of the Day Awards for each team will be again sponsored by the Rose & Crown and the vans for our travelling teams will again be sponsored by Transpec Rentals. We strongly encourage all members to support those who sponsor us and to acknowledge your appreciation of that support when you contact them

Committee:
Unfortunately we have a couple of departures pending due to changes in personal circumstances, so we need to find replacements ASAP. Also Each team must have a representative on the Committee. This will involve participating at approx 6-7 monthly meetings for approx 2hrs each. We dont want the team rep to be the team manager or coach or someone already involved - we want fresh faces and ideas ! So, please dont be backward in coming forward - this can be great opportunity to give a little bit back to your club, to understand how the club operates, to provide a personal development opportunity, for you to act as the voice of your team and to meet fellow club members

Fees:
The football fees are the same as last season and details have been advised to the football team managers/coaches.
These are NOW due and your prompt payment would be much appreciated.
The Netball Fees will be advised to Netball Teams by the Netball Convenor

Fundraising:
We have been fortunate to obtain 3 new fundraising opportunities for the club

1- Firewood: bagging
If we dont use this opportunity, we will lose it. We had a small team of 12 on Sunday 2 March, but we ideally need at least 20 for each session to achieve 1,000 bags in approx 3-4 hours. This is a great way to raise easy money and for team bonding ! We have 3 more bagging sessions available being:
     Friday 11 April 3pm to 7pm @ Whakarongo

Good Friday 18 April 9:00am to 1:00pm @ Kimbolton
      Easter Sunday 20 April 9:00am to 1:00pm @ Kimbolton

Ideally we need at least 2-3 volunteers from each team for each session. Suitably aged kids can help !
All participants will go into a draw for a 50% discount on their 2014 fees !
If you can help at any of these sessions please email details ASAP to firewood@redsox.co.nz

2 - Firewood: trailer load:
For every trailer load of firewood sold your club will receive $20

3 - Ice: Party Ice bags:
For every bag sold at Caltex Fitzherbert, Caltex Main Street and Caltex Feilding your club will receive 30c

So whenever you or your family, friends, neighbours, work colleagues etc need Ice or Firewood make sure they purchase from these generous suppliers..

History:
From a recent perusal of archive records of the Manawatu Standard it has been confirmed that Red Sox came into existence at the start of the 1970/71 Softball season, which means that come 1 October this year we will be celebrating our 44th birthday !

Travel Story:
In my travels through life I have been in many places. But I've never been in Kahoots. Apparently, you can't go alone. You have to be in Kahoots with someone. I've also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don't have an airport; you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my children, friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I'm not too much on physical activity anymore. I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often. I've been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I'm in Capable, and I go there more often as I'm getting older. One of my favourite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get ! I have been in Continent, but I don't remember where it was. It's an age thing and I recall it was very wet and damp there. When I was in Sufferable I had great difficulty making new friends. Stay away from there. I tried writing in Coherently but found that no one ever replied. Life is too short for negative drama and petty things so I am now going to laugh in Sanely.
