Welcome to Red Sox ~ We Have a Dream ~ Don't You Forget It !
Greetings Club Members
Well no doubt the anticipation and pressure of Xmas and the Holidays a firm grip on your attention span, but I'm also thinking where the hell has the year gone !!
Whilst it may be the off-season for most of us, the action is just starting for our mens futsal team . . . .
Red Sox Futsal: The 2012-13 National Futsal League season starts this weekend with the 1st (of 3) regional tournaments, being held in Dunedin. Whilst the team is officially known as Central Football - Manawatu (as all the teams must be linked to their 'federations' iaw NZ Futsal rules), be in no doubt this is a Red Sox team that club stalwart and player/coach Murray (Muzza) Burling has been instrumental in organising for the past 4 seasons !
The team manager is Johanna Wood and the playing squad for Dunedin is as follows: Scott Mudgway, Dalin Wilson, Ian Robinson, Richard Wood, Matt Wallace, Matt Silver, Woody Maxey-Graham, Nathan Reddy, Olly Tilley, Jason Boyce.
Preview Comments from Muzza for the Dunedin Tournament: "Five of the squad have played in last years and/or previous years national league. We have a mix of experience and youth. Combining the two and getting the mix right will determine if we get the results we are looking for. Our target for the weekend is 7 points. We have five games, two on Saturday and three on Sunday. The two on Saturday are against the two finalists in last seasons final (held March 2012). Mainland Futsal are our first opponents at 5.00pm and a good result against them will provide momentum going into the game vs AFF Futsal East City at 8.00pm who will be the team to beat again this year. We are normally very competitive against East City and as they are the present holders of the Marilyn Burling Memorial Trophy* there will be added incentive to get the result we want. Sundays matches are vs Northern Futsal at 10.00am, Central Futsal Hawkes Bay at 12.00pm and Futsal South at 4.00pm. These are the teams we will be targeting to get maximum results from. All games will be steamed live and the link can be found on the NZ Football Futsal Website
After finishing fourth in the inaugural Futsal National League (Season 2010/11) and second equal last season (2011/12) after the round robin, we are hoping to go one further this season and make the final.
It will be a huge ask for the new lads to get up to speed with the pace and strategy of the game at this level but time will tell and hopefully we can come away from the weekend well placed and hungry to get into more training for the next round in Auckland in February 2013"
Thanks for the preview Muzza and Good Luck to you and the team !! Safe Travels Special thanks and appreciation also to Stewarts for their support of our futsal team
World Club Cup 2012 - Chelsea vs Auckland City ? It could happen and it all starts tonite, with the 1st game of the 2012 World Club Cup being held in Japan. If they beat the Hiroshima team, then beat the Egyptian team (again) then win their semi-final AND if Chelsea win their semi-final then its on !! Stranger things have happened.
The game tonite for Auckland will also make history as the first time that FIFA approved GoalLine Technology is being used to check for balls crossing the goal-line !
